Welcome to “Beating the Sea Bound”

An event deeply rooted in the maritime history and cultural heritage of Poole, Dorset. Our event pays homage to the ancient tradition of the Beating of the Bounds of Poole Harbour, which dates back to the 14th century

Our Heritage

The Beating of the Bounds ceremony originated as a means to safeguard the boundaries of Poole Harbour, ensuring the preservation of the waters and the protection of the Port of Poole. Established in 1364 with the issuance of the Winchelsea Certificate, this historic ritual involved inspecting boundary markers to ensure their integrity and rightful positioning.

Our Mission

At “Beating the Sea Bound” we are dedicated to reviving and honouring this centuries-old tradition. The Society for Poole spearheads our efforts to re-establish the event on Poole’s event calendar, recognising its significance as a unique cultural ceremony exclusive to our vibrant coastal town.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a memorable and enriching experience for attendees, showcasing the maritime heritage of Poole through an engaging and entertaining pageant. We aim to transform the Beating of the Bounds into a spectacular event that captivates audiences of all ages, celebrating our connection to the sea and the resilience of our community.
